The Housing Crash of 2008
When comparing the housing market to the market in 2008 we see a disturbing trend reemerging. In 2008 one out of every fifty-six homes was somewhere in the foreclosure process. In 2024 about one out of every sixteen hundred homes were in foreclosure, and by the beginning quarter of 2025 that number quickly changed to roughly one out of fifteen hundred. On a weekly basis the number of homes in foreclosure nationwide is rising by the thousands. We attribute the rise to several factors such as the unemployment rate, and deregulation. The inflated price of homes made it nearly impossible for first time homebuyers to buy a new home, and eventually it became very hard for homeowners to sell at a price that would be fair market value. We now see a big swing happening, and all of the equity that had been accumulating is starting to decline. More and more homes started flooding back into the market making it, once again a buyers' market. Only now the interest rates are much higher, and if you got your home after 2010 you probably see the value in keeping it. We do too!
